Cybernetics Introduces iSAN^® Vault iSCSI Disk Storage and Management Suite

May 18, 2004, Yorktown, Virginia – With the recent release of iSAN^® Vault, Cybernetics has added iSCSI disk storage to its popular iSCSI backup products to become the first to offer a comprehensive suite of components for a complete, scalable IP SAN. iSAN^® Vault connects and manages shared disk storage over an Ethernet network using the standard IP network protocol. iTape™ and HSTC™ provide network centric backup solutions for iSAN^® Vault storage, as well as for distributed disk resources.

SAN, or storage area networking, is the pinnacle for availability, security, and management of data. A SAN shifts the overhead of storage tasks from servers to optimize processing power, and consolidate storage hardware resources to maximize efficiency and security, while minimizing total cost of ownership. Historically, there have been two paths to storage networking. NAS is low in cost, uses ubiquitous Ethernet, and is easy to implement, but the file system overhead deals quite a blow to performance, and incurs compatibility limitations. Fibre Channel SAN implements a block-level protocol to deliver exceptional performance, but has been plagued with interoperability and complexity issues, and a price point that is a significant obstacle for most small and medium sized business organizations.
