The
Tampa Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau
is an independent, non-profit
organization representing over 700
businesses throughout Tampa Bay. Its
mission is to drive economic growth by
marketing the region as a preferred
destination for conventions and tourism.
Keith Bukovan manages the organization’s
14 Windows 2003 R2 servers with 500 GB
of disk capacity, and he turned to
Cybernetics for a solution that would
streamline and shorten weekly tape-only
full system backups which had become too
“complex and time consuming” using
two HP DAT libraries connected to two
dedicated backup servers. After
reviewing other solutions on the market,
Bukovan chose the miSAN V Series,
finding it “one of the only all-in-one
solutions for our needs” at a price
point for capacity that was “extremely
competitive.”
“Are
you kidding me? This is fantastic.”
Before
miSAN, full weekend backup for all
systems took 26 hours and required
multiple backup servers and tape drives,
increasing software licenses, and “10
times more tapes to manage.” It was
not only time-consuming and inefficient
but expensive, and there were
reliability issues with the older
technology. With miSAN, Bukovan reports
“I get 1 GB/Min throughput” and
backups only take 6.5 hours; with miSAN,
he says, “Backups/Restores and
offloading of disk to tape are
simplified and very fast.”
With
three Gigabit Ethernet ports, a SATA-2
backplane, and support for up to 9 TB
native capacity, miSAN V Series offers a
scalable solution that customers like
Bukovan appreciate for providing
exceptional flexibility and ease of use.
Simply connect miSAN to an Ethernet
network and assign an IP address for
enterprise-wide access to centralized
backup and restore. Featuring tape
virtualization for compatibility with
off-the-shelf backup software, miSAN V
Series enables administrators to
schedule backup operations at designated
intervals, without any manual
intervention. Multiple backup jobs can
run concurrently to independent logical
libraries within the virtual tape
library. A connection to network UPS
eliminates the risk of data corruption
due to power outages.
An
exclusive offload feature supports the
attachment of an external tape drive or
library for serverless backup to
removable media, with licensing for as
many as six virtual tape libraries. It
is also available with an integrated
tape drive to provide 4.5 TB in just 2U
of rack space – and from 400 GB to 1.2
TB on each removable tape, depending on
optional data compression. Archiving can
be performed automatically at the
completion of the virtual tape backup,
or at any time. The archived tape is
non-proprietary and can be restored in
any like tape drive on any like host
platform. For the increasing number of
companies who have a fiduciary
responsibility to protect corporate and
customer data, Cybernetics also offers
optional data encryption. In short, the
miSAN V Series can be configured to meet
the needs of the most demanding disaster
recovery and data security requirements. |
